Dr. Karin B. Edwards


Clark College

As a long-time educator, Dr. Karin Edwards has witnessed the transformational power that community colleges have in the lives of students and in the communities they serve. Having worked at two and four-year public and private colleges and universities, Dr. Edwards has over 35 years of experience in higher education administration. Though her experience at 4-year colleges was meaningful and rewarding, it was at community college where she found her niche.

Dr. Edwards is the President of Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, where she is responsible for providing vision and strategic direction for the college. She oversees all operational, instructional, financial, and student support services as Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Edwards is active in community outreach, cultivating and engaging partners, and workforce development. She provides critical leadership in creating promising pathways and ensuring equitable student success. Before arriving in the Pacific Northwest in 2014, Dr. Edwards worked at community colleges in the Connecticut and New York State College systems.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Education Administration from the State University of New York at Albany. She also earned a doctorate in Education Leadership from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Dr. Edwards continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the mission of community colleges by improving access, the student experience, and equitable student outcomes. Equity is also inherent in the mission of community colleges, and Dr. Edwards has championed diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout her career.

 Dr. Edwards is a native New Yorker, born and raised in the South Bronx. For leisure, she enjoys time with her family and friends, attending cultural events, and traveling. She is a member of several service organizations and enjoys giving back to her community by serving on various boards.


Monique Umphrey, D.M., PMP

Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor

Austin Community College

Dr. Monique Umphrey, Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor of Austin Community College made her date with destiny when she solidified her love for data earning her B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems at Middle Tennessee State University in the 1990s. Understanding information forced her to explore her cognitive and emotional intelligences in ways few comprehend. She is an extremely passionate leader who masters patterns, people and purpose.

With more than 20 years of experience in Corporate America at companies including Bridgestone/Firestone and ACS (Xerox), Dr. Umphrey knew she wanted to be a champion for change in higher education. With her Master of Science Degree in hand, she earned her doctoral degree in management from the University of Maryland University College with a focus in Community College Policy and Administration. This made her goal more attainable.

Her lifelong commitment to innovation, equity, and systemic change is evidenced by her initiatives as the former President at Houston Community College Northeast in Houston, TX. There she led the launch of the District’s first interdisciplinary Center of Excellence, and the design of the Regional Resilience Operations Center (RROC). She also launched HCC Northeast’s Honor College in the Fall of 2021. Prior to Serving in Houston she served as Vice President of Workforce Innovation and the College-wide Dean of the Information Technology Center of Excellence at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) in Cleveland, Ohio. Bridging the digital divide through innovative programs like the Bridge to Bachelor pathway and creating partnerships with Apple and IBM to prepare students for Blockchain, she is a passionate and insightful change facilitator.

Dr. Monique Umphrey was selected as an Aspen Presidential Fellow for Community College Excellence and holds numerous professional certifications that include Project Management Professional as well as Certified Scrum Master.
