Professional Development Opportunities

AAWCC offers professional development opportunities to educate members about issues facing women in higher education and to help women advance in community college leadership.

Among the events offered annually are:

  • LEADERS Institute

The LEADERS Institute is a five-day, content-intensive, experiential workshop, based on the AACC Core Competencies for Community College Leaders. LEADERS promotes the development of women’s leadership skills and qualities at every level in community college education and administration. The Institute is designed to prepare women leaders for career opportunities, career advancement, and executive-level leadership positions, including the presidency. Over the course of 38 years of successes, LEADERS Institute has established a coalition of more than 6,000 women leaders. Learn more.

  • National Conference

AAWCC holds an annual conference every fall to invite community college women - both employees and students - to connect and advance their professional development. AAWCC chapters and their members are invited to submit presentations for consideration of event sessions or speakers. The location for this conference varies year to year. Learn more.

  • Day of Dialogue

In celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, AAWCC organizes its annual Day of Dialogue to encourage chapters to engage in thoughtful conversation about issues impacting women attending and working at community colleges. AAWCC develops a themed topic, as well as resources to assist chapters in planning events and discussions. Chapters develop programming to complement the topic. While called Day of Dialogue, chapter programming takes place throughout the month of March. Learn more.

  • Summer Staycation Series

For summer professional development, AAWCC offers a virtual learning series featuring topics designed to enrich lives and benefit personal health and wellness. The series also provides members an opportunity to showcase their areas of expertise and support other members across the country. Learn more about the latest series.

Other content of interest to members is the AAWCC podcast on Podbean, which offers conversations with the women leading America's community colleges.
